Where does all this leave us? Unless you’re Scottish and prefer your oat meal plain with a dash of salt (which is really rather nice), hot cereal may seem too plain to be palatable. Why not try some natural sweetners? Hot cereal can be “dressed up” with bananas, dates,. raisins, and fresh or frozen fruit. Or try unsweetened applesauce or sliced fruit in sandwiches instead of jams or jellies. It doesn’t take long for the taste buds to become adjusted to naturally sweet foods. Let’s face it our tastebuds need to be re-educated to normal levels.
